Railway rail cutting discs for track maintenance

The FUJI Type A railway rail cut-off wheel is designed for rail steel cutting during track maintenance, rail replacement and installation. Choose 305 mm (12 inch) or 355 mm (14 inch) to match your rail cutting machine. Both sizes feature three layers of fiberglass mesh reinforcement, a 4.5 mm thickness and a 100 m/s (6,000 m/min) maximum peripheral speed.

For railway contractors and maintenance teams, wheel selection should start with the rail material, machine model, diameter, bore and marked operating-speed limit. This is a dedicated rail cutting product; our GC masonry cut-off wheel for concrete, brick and stone is a separate solution.

Three-layer fiberglass mesh reinforcement

Three layers of fiberglass mesh reinforce the resin-bonded abrasive structure for high-speed rail cutting. This reinforcement supports structural integrity and is a key safety feature of the wheel. It does not eliminate breakage risk or replace correct mounting, guarding and operation.

100 m/s high-speed rail cutting

The high-speed rating supports efficient abrasive cutting on a compatible rail saw. Actual cutting time and wheel consumption depend on rail grade and section, machine power, feed and operating conditions. Compare time per completed cut and cuts per wheel in representative trials rather than assuming a fixed productivity gain.

100 m/s is the maximum peripheral-speed rating, not an instruction to run every saw at the same RPM. The required RPM depends on wheel diameter. The larger 355 mm wheel reaches the same peripheral speed at fewer revolutions than the 305 mm wheel.

305 mm and 355 mm technical specifications

Dimensions (mm) Thickness Arbor (Hole) Spec / Grade Max Peripheral Speed Calculated RPM at 100 m/s Package Qty
305 mm (12") 4.5 mm 25.4 mm A24R BF 100 m/s
(6,000 m/min)
Approx. 6,262 RPM 25 pcs
355 mm (14") 4.5 mm 25.4 / 22 mm A24R BF 100 m/s
(6,000 m/min)
Approx. 5,380 RPM 25 pcs

Conversion: 100 m/s = 6,000 m/min. RPM = 6,000 ÷ (π × diameter in metres). The RPM figures are mathematical conversions; follow the maximum RPM marked on the actual wheel. Confirm the bore size and packaging of the selected variant before ordering.

Choosing a 12-inch or 14-inch rail cutting wheel

  • 305 mm / 12 inch: Select for a machine approved for 305 mm abrasive rail cutting wheels and the required bore.
  • 355 mm / 14 inch: Select only when the machine, guard, flanges and rail-cutting attachment are approved for this diameter.
  • Cutting capacity: Confirm that the machine’s stated capacity accommodates the rail section. Wheel diameter alone does not establish usable cutting depth.

Rail saw and petrol cutter compatibility

Use a compatible petrol cutting machine or stationary cut-off machine approved for this abrasive wheel and rail cutting application. Check its permitted wheel diameter, bore, flange arrangement, guard and maximum spindle speed. For a particular brand or model, request a compatibility check rather than assuming all petrol cutters accept the same wheel.

Secure the rail and use the machine’s specified rail clamp or guide. Where a stationary cutting setup is proposed, confirm approval for both the machine and the rail operation. Browse FUJI cutting machines for other cutting applications; the collection is not a blanket compatibility endorsement for this rail wheel.

Railway maintenance applications

  • Rail replacement and removal of damaged rail sections.
  • Rail length preparation during approved track installation work.
  • Maintenance of conventional railways, metro systems and light-rail tracks, subject to rail-grade and machine compatibility.

Follow the project’s requirements for cut alignment, rail-end inspection and subsequent joining. Control cutting heat and inspect the rail end according to the project requirements.

Mounting and operation checks

Inspect the wheel before use and follow the wheel and machine instructions for mounting, guarding, workpiece support and protective equipment. Never exceed the marked wheel speed. Use the cut-off wheel for cutting only; avoid side grinding, twisting or forcing it in the kerf. Stop if abnormal vibration, binding or damage occurs.

Abrasive Wheel Selection & Technical Parameters Guide

Choosing the correct abrasive wheel is critical for both operational efficiency and JIS-compliant safety. Fuji Grinding Wheels are engineered with precise technical markings to ensure the perfect match for your specific material and machine requirements.

Understanding Fuji Markings (e.g., WA 36 P BF)

  • Abrasive Type (WA/A/AZ): Determines the suitability for material hardness (e.g., WA for hardened steel, AZ for heavy-duty alloys).
  • Grit Size (16 - 120): Indicates the coarseness. Lower numbers for rapid removal; higher numbers for precision finishing.
  • Hardness Grade (L - S): Defines the bond strength. Correct selection prevents premature wheel wear or surface glazing.
  • Bonding Agent (BF): High-grade Resinoid bond reinforced for high-speed safety and impact resistance.

💡 Expert Selection Tip

For professional export markets, always verify the Peripheral Speed (m/s) compatibility. Fuji wheels are designed to exceed JIS Burst Speed factors, but operating at the recommended R.P.M. ensures the longest tool life and cleanest cut.

Note: Mismatched grit or hardness can lead to excessive heat buildup, affecting the workpiece's structural integrity.

Fuji Abrasives Wheel Description of Marking

Global Maintenance Standard: To maintain the high safety factor of Fuji wheels, avoid exposure to excessive humidity and chemical solvents during storage. Proper care preserves the resinoid bond's strength, crucial for high-load industrial applications.

FUJI Industrial Quality & Safety Protocols

Fuji products are manufactured following strict Japanese standard process requirements. Every wheel is engineered to meet or exceed JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), such as JIS R 6242 and B 4051. Our core engineering logic prioritizes maximum operator protection by maintaining safety factors and burst speed capabilities that often surpass the highest industry benchmarks.

Standard Region Safety Factor (Burst Multiplier) Safety Logic & Benchmark
FUJI (High Precision) > 2.0x Engineered to exceed JIS requirements for maximum reliability.
Japan (JIS R 6242) 2.0x Extreme Safety: A wheel rated at 80m/s must withstand a 160m/s burst test.
Europe (EN 12413) 1.73x Risk Balanced: Provides high safety redundancy for most industrial apps.
USA (ANSI B7.1) 1.5x Efficiency Focused: Relies on machine guarding and operational procedures.

⚠️ Essential Safety Cautions & Operational Integrity

  • 1. RPM Compliance: Never exceed the maximum R.P.M. specified on the wheel. Using the sides of the wheels for grinding is strictly prohibited, as it compromises the structural integrity of the abrasive bond.
  • 2. Mandatory Idling: Allow the tool to idle for one minute before beginning work. If a new wheel has been mounted, an idle run of three minutes is required to ensure dynamic stability.
  • 3. Workpiece Stability: All materials must be securely fastened. Improperly secured workpieces can lead to vibration, wheel binding, and unsafe kickback forces.
  • 4. Arbor Hole Integrity: Do not modify or enlarge the metal center of the arbor hole. A proper fit is critical; a mismatched arbor causes eccentric rotation and dangerous vibration levels.
  • 5. PPE Requirements: Industrial-grade face and eye protection are mandatory at all times. Ensure all protective gear meets local safety compliance standards.
  • 6. Guard Protection: Protection guards are designed to contain fragments in the unlikely event of a wheel failure. Never operate tools or machinery with guards removed.

Professional Export & Maintenance Insight

When deploying Fuji high-performance tools in overseas markets, ensure that the regional power grid frequency and voltage match the tool specifications. To maintain the superior burst speed safety of Fuji wheels, store abrasives in a dry, temperate environment. Humidity can degrade the resin bond, potentially lowering the wheel’s resistance to centrifugal forces.
