A field report from the FUJI Grinding Wheel team

At MetalChina 2026 in Shanghai, FUJI presented a coordinated approach to foundry grinding: high-frequency power tools, a compatible power supply and abrasive wheels selected for casting cleanup. Discussions with foundry visitors focused on grinding performance under load, maintenance requirements and the cost of manual finishing.

The equipment demonstrated included the FUJI KOSOKU high-frequency power supply, HGC-3902 high-frequency angle grinder and HIC-3802 die grinder. The aim was to help operators and production teams evaluate the complete grinding station, rather than the tool alone.

Grinding Challenges Discussed with Foundry Visitors

Casting geometry, flash and access conditions can make finishing requirements vary from one workpiece to another. Handheld grinding remains useful where operators need to follow irregular surfaces or reach areas that are difficult to process with a fixed setup.

Our conversations at the exhibition focused on three practical questions:

  • Performance under load: Is the grinder and wheel combination suitable for the material-removal task without excessive pressure or operation beyond the tool's rating?
  • Maintenance and downtime: How often does equipment require servicing, and what does that mean for the production schedule?
  • Cost per finished casting: How do grinding time, abrasive consumption and maintenance affect the overall cost of the operation?

What FUJI Demonstrated at MetalChina 2026

FUJI's high-frequency grinding equipment combines dedicated tools with a matching power supply. The exhibition brought these components together for discussions about heavy-duty casting cleanup and finishing.

Equipment Role in the grinding setup Selection check
HGC-3902 HF angle grinder Angle-grinding operations on accessible casting surfaces Wheel size, marked speed, material and workload
HIC-3802 die grinder Finishing tasks requiring a different tool shape and access Permitted abrasive, mounting and operating speed
FUJI KOSOKU HF power supply Electrical supply matched to the selected HF tools Input supply, output voltage and frequency, and connected load

Where High-Frequency Grinding Is Worth Evaluating

High-frequency equipment is worth evaluating for sustained industrial grinding where the machine's rated performance, maintenance requirements and available power system fit the production task. FUJI's 250Hz and 300Hz configurations must be selected as matched systems; the frequency alone does not establish compatibility.

  • Brushless induction motor design: The demonstrated HF tools avoid carbon-brush replacement. Bearings, gears and other components still require inspection and maintenance.
  • Grinding performance under load: Evaluate speed stability and material removal within the tool's rated operating range. Performance depends on the power supply, wheel, material and applied load.
  • Operator handling: Choose a tool with suitable weight, grip and access for the working position. A trial should consider handling and vibration as well as output.

Matching the Abrasive Wheel to the Tool

FUJI's abrasive and industrial tool expertise helps customers consider the grinder, wheel and casting together. At the exhibition, discussions included these two wheel options:

  • Super F-II grinding wheel, 180 × 7mm: An option to discuss for routine grinding and casting-cleanup requirements. Confirm the supplied wheel specification against the workpiece and tool.
  • Super Z grinding wheel, 180 × 6mm: An alternative to evaluate for demanding cast-iron grinding. Selection should account for the casting grade, surface condition and required material removal.

FUJI's hot-press production process was part of the discussion about abrasive manufacture. Process choice alone is not a substitute for confirming the wheel's permitted application, dimensions and marked maximum speed.

Electrical frequency in hertz and wheel rotational speed in RPM are different specifications. Match the abrasive to the grinder's marked speed and use the correct guard and mounting system. Grinding-only wheels must not be used as cut-off wheels.

Evaluating the Cost of a High-Frequency Setup

A high-frequency installation requires a compatible power supply as well as the tools. Before changing a production station, compare the investment with measured operating costs on representative castings.

A useful trial records grinding time per casting, abrasive consumption, required finish, maintenance time and operator feedback. Payback depends on the workload, labour costs and existing equipment; a fixed recovery period cannot be assumed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a 300Hz grinder connect directly to ordinary mains power?

No. Use a compatible high-frequency power supply with the voltage, frequency and capacity required by the grinder. Check the power-supply input requirements against the site's electrical supply. The number of tools that can operate together depends on the system's rated capacity.

When should a foundry consider high-frequency grinding?

Consider a trial when sustained casting cleanup places significant demands on the current equipment. Compare output, finish, maintenance and handling on the actual task before choosing the system.

How should I choose the grinding wheel?

Provide the casting material, surface condition, task and grinder model. Confirm wheel dimensions, mounting, permitted use and maximum speed, then evaluate suitable formulations under the same working conditions.
